The need for awareness about cultural differences comes from the fact that we do not treat differences in ways of acting as merely different. In a work place setting, a diversity program establishes procedures for ensuring access to employment for the full range of people seeking work. It provides training about, and management of, cultural differences in communication, interaction, and working style so that all employees can work together productively and harmoniously, with equal opportunities for compensation and advancement.

Don't get it twisted, the mere presence of black employee's in jobs or having a competent black person in a position of responsibility does not eliminate racism.

   


A diversity program can have many functions, from assuring all students and employees are treated and evaluated equally; that they are safe from threats or harassment; and that curriculum reflects the history, voice and contributions of the world’s peoples.
